The fresh air, endless vineyards, and the scent of wine with the sea in the background: this was the setting for Frecan’s recent team-building experience at the Celler de les Aus.
Wine has a special magic, a story to tell. During our visit to Alta Alella, we had the chance to learn firsthand what it means to care for and preserve that magic. As Josep Maria Pujol, founder of the winery, said: “The winemaking process doesn’t end until the bottle is opened.”
This statement made us reflect. If wine is a living product, how can we ensure it reaches the table as it was meant to be?
What is a wine cooler?
At Alta Alella, we not only learned about the winemaking process but also about how small changes in its environment can make the difference between a wine that shines and one that loses its character.
You don’t need a large underground cellar; a wine cooler can create the ideal conditions, replicating the temperature, humidity, and protection that wine needs to mature. This space ensures every bottle has a place to grow and patiently await its moment to be uncorked.
Air, light, temperature, and care matter. Having a wine cooler at home is not a luxury; it’s a way to appreciate wine, give it the respect it deserves, and enjoy it at its best.
Why is it essential?
The visit to Celler de les Aus was more than revealing; it was an experience that united the team and deepened our understanding of wine care. We learned that preserving wine at home isn’t just practical—it’s an art that requires knowledge and attention.
Key insights included how light can alter aromatic compounds, especially in white wines and sparkling wines, accelerating oxidation. That’s why our wine coolers feature UV-protected tinted glass.
Additionally, temperature is critical to maintaining the chemical and aromatic stability of wine. Some Frecan models feature dual-temperature zones, allowing different types of wine to be stored in ideal conditions.
Maintaining humidity between 50% and 70% is also vital. An overly dry environment can dry out corks and oxidize wine, while excessive humidity can cause mold. Frecan wine coolers automatically regulate this parameter and offer an additional accessory for extremely dry environments to ensure balance.
It’s equally important to consider vibrations and ventilation quality. Vibrations can disrupt the natural aging process of wine, and poor air quality can affect its flavor. Our wine coolers provide a stable, secure environment and clean, high-quality air through integrated filters that effectively remove unwanted odors.
They are not just designed for stable conditions and clean air—they also prioritize proper storage. Bottles should be stored horizontally to keep corks moist and prevent loss of pressure. For this reason, Frecan wine coolers include ergonomic shelves and independent zones, allowing wines to be organized by type or vintage, ensuring optimal preservation.
In summary, Frecan doesn’t just design functional products; its essence lies in caring for people and the spaces they inhabit. The visit to Celler de les Aus was not just a day of learning but an experience that reaffirmed this commitment.
The team-building experience at Alta Alella reinforced our belief that, like wine, our products should be treated with care and knowledge. We leave with a clear idea: technology, when applied correctly, elevates the everyday into something exceptional.
Together, we continue to grow as a team and as professionals.
